Odds and Ends – Whistler Photography Wrap Up

Every year on April 20th, everyone comes down to the Whistler Village to smoke a big joint. April 20th translates into 420, which was the 70′s era penal code designation for marijuana possession, and has become kind of a marijuana rights day of action. I found this guy and asked him if he would let [...]

The Whistler Question, Winter 2013

Idle No More protest in the Whistler village. It’s been a good winter for a Whistler photographer at the Whistler Question newspaper this winter. I’ve photographed political protests, raging fires, world class athletes, and all sorts of artists and entertainers. I’ve placed second in the Canadian Community Newspaper Association for feature photography, and I’m on [...]

Megan and Tim – Whistler Mountain Weddings

Megan and Tim’s Whistler mountain wedding was my last wedding of the 2013 winter season for me, and I couldn’t gotten a nicer couple for it. They met two years ago while working as lift attendants on Whistler, and came back from Australia (Tim is actually a Brit) to have their wedding up the top [...]

Angelique and Kiola – Aloha Whistler Wedding

This is a cool little forest by the Nicklaus North golf course (which is still closed for the winter) that a family of local beavers is slowly decimating. Two years ago this was a dense forest, now it’s a big open space. In the summer, the grass grows up about waist high, so now is [...]

Marlo and Jarod – Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre

Marlo and Jarod are a fairly local couple by my standards, they’re from Vancouver where Marlo owns a Commercial Drive hair salon. They had their wedding at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, which is kind of a new venue for weddings, but a really cool place. The native art in the great hall alone is [...]

Whistler Winter Wedding

Jessie and Chris came from the Toronto area for a snow Whistler winter wedding with their friends and family. The day of the wedding, we had a massive pacific frontal system roll in, causing a massive snow storm. The wedding was a private house up at the Taluswood neighbourhood, which is higher up the valley [...]

The Bride Wore Gore-Tex – Mountaintop Whistler Wedding

Leanna and Pete are a really nice couple from Kelowna BC who came out for a low key Whistler wedding with their friends and family. Being big skiers, they had the ceremony at the Olympic Inukshuk at the Roundhouse at the top of Whistler Mountain. It was a beautiful day, with 20cm’s of fresh snow. [...]

Whistler Mountain Wedding – Debbie and Adam

Debbie and Adam came for an extended vacation in Whistler from the UK and decided to get married here on Valentine’s Day while they were at it. It was pretty casual scene, with just the couple, wedding commissioner Gordon Dyson, wedding planner Linda Marshal, and me. Linda, Gordon, and I have all been friends for [...]

Kristen and Bruce – Nita Lake Lodge Wedding

Kristen and Bruce came up from Seattle for a small Nita Lake Lodge wedding here in Whistler. Just to try something different, we decided to do some of the wedding portraits on the middle of Nita Lake, which was frozen hard over. We also got a beautiful day, with a break in the freezing weather [...]

Izabela and Kevin – Whistler Sleigh Ride Wedding

For the second time in December, I’ve been to the Blackcomb Sleigh Rides operation at Nicklaus North for a wedding. Izabela and Kevin came out from the UK without really much of any plan for their wedding. I’d had a really good day earlier in the month with Selma and Miho, so I suggested that [...]

About Me

A top Whistler wedding photographer and photojournalist, I also photograph family portraits, engagement portraits, and do photography for corporate events throughout the Vancouver and Whistler regions.

In 1994, I moved to South Africa to photograph the transformation from Apartheid to free rule, and ended up spending more than two years photographing there. While I was the Durban photographer for the Mail & Guardian newspaper in 1996, it was awarded the British IPD Best International Newspaper Award, and the Missouri Medal for Distinguished Journalism.

I returned to Whistler in 1997 and began working as a wedding, portrait, and event photographer. Today I photograph over 40 weddings a year, from small elopement sized weddings to large weddings with over 200 guests.

As well as wedding photography, I’ve also been an instructor of photojournalism at the Focal Point Photo Resource in Vancouver, a judge for the annual BC & Yukon Newspaper Association photojournalism competition, and been a commissioning photographer for three independent newspapers.

I’m still active as a photojournalist, having been instrumental in the launch of the independent newspapers The Sea to Sky News, Garibaldi News, and Urban Pie Magazine.

In 2009, I returned to South Africa and spent three months photographing the country and it’s people.
